So you’re around level 78, picking up crests, and ready to transform unique items at the Veridian Anvil. But when you open the interface, you only see “rune forging non-unique armor.” No option for uniques. What happened? You missed something in the campaign. Let’s fix that.
Step 1: Leave Endgame and Find the Rune Seeker
First, exit endgame. You’re tracking endgame quests, but you need to go back to the campaign. Travel to any act location—say, Act Two. Open your map. Now your quests will be specific to that act. Look for Rune Seeker. That’s your target.
In Act Two, the quest might say: “Search the Bone Pits for the rune stones.” That means you missed the Preserved Witness in the Bone Pits. Check Act One quickly. If you see an “X” on Bard Rune Stones and Wild Rune Stones, that act is complete. Each act (One, Two, Three) unlocks something different for the new mechanic and crafting.
Step 2: Follow Pharaoh’s Clues
Go to the Bone Pits. You’ll notice Pharaoh appearing sometimes. When he shows up and waves his tool around, pay attention. That means there’s something nearby for you to find. Locate Pharaoh, watch for his wave, and you’ll unlock access to the Cave Mouth in Act Two. Enter it, finish the area, and return to your hideout.
Step 3: Understand Runic Alloys
By now you’ve likely picked up runic alloys. Simply right-click them to apply. They remove a random modifier or augment your gear. Different alloys do different things—read their descriptions. You can also search for “alloy” at the currency exchange to see all available types.
Step 4: Complete Act Three’s Unlock
In Act Three, I missed the Jungle Ruins. Travel there, find Pharaoh waving his tool again, and you’re good to go. After finding all the runes, head to the Mystic Refuge in the Infested Barons. You’ll discover another runic vault. Complete it, return to your hideout, and now—finally—you can craft on unique items.
Step 5: Crafting Uniques at the Anvil
Now the Veridian Anvil works differently based on item level:

Below item level 55: You spend Veridium to add a runic ward. No other cost. You get roughly 24 ward.

At or above item level 55: Adding a runic ward reduces base defenses slightly (e.g., armor 177 → 167, evasion 161 → 153) but grants more ward (e.g., 45 ward). The trade-off is worth it for survivability.

For unique items, the effect is exciting. Low-level uniques (like Mist Whisper makeshift crossbow, item level 49) see their damage scaled up significantly—physical damage from 7–12 to 41–77. This allows you to take otherwise obsolete uniques deep into endgame. Higher item level uniques (like a level 74 chest piece) grant large ward values (e.g., 130) alongside modest defense increases.
Important note on Ward: Ward acts as an extension of your life pool. It does not save you from a one-shot if your combined health and ward aren’t enough to survive the blow. It mitigates damage but isn’t invincibility.
Step 6: Expedition and Runic Recipes
Finally, let’s unlock remaining recipes. In Act Four, don’t ignore Plunderer’s Point. Run the expedition there. At the end, Dannig offers a turn-in, directing you to the Deserted Post. Complete it, read the tome at the end, and you’ll receive all remaining runic recipes.
Note: Expedition is now on the world map, not inside maps. You won’t get Atlas points for expedition maps, and there’s no separate Expedition tree. However, the main Atlas tree contains global bonuses that can juice your expeditions. You earn main Atlas points by completing the primary quest chain in the fortress.
Final Tip
If you’re stuck like I was, backtrack through each act’s Rune Seeker quest. Pharaoh’s tool wave is your signal. Unlock all three acts, and the Veridian Anvil becomes a powerful tool to carry your favorite uniques from leveling all the way to endgame bossing.
Good luck, exile. https://www.mmoexp.com/Poe-2/Currency.html?fsid=800205
